Post Liverpool

After liverpool we started editing right away, we had recovered the memory card we had lost, only to lose another third of the footage, due to an unfortunate theft of our editors bag. We recovered again after another trip to liverpool to re-film some of the night time stuff, we have had various meetings to discuss the edit,  editing a documentary is more like assembling and creating a story line, its very different to editing a short film, as there is more freedom of structure, and more importantly more room for ideas to bounce around.

"Every film benefits from an independent creatively skeptical editor - one who sees like an audience. The directors prior investment never allows him or her to be so objective" p208 directing the documentary - Michael Rabiger.

I was reading this book shortly before making the documentary, and it gave me quite a lot of insight into the leeway with technical decisions and not to be afraid if there was a decision i didn't like to just stand up and say. I think it was important for the whole group to do this while still sticking to their roles, but also having a creative input to the film. This is what i did as i had the role of sound recordist, and while fulfilling my role in that respect i also enjoyed doing camera work, and putting my own creative edge into the film.
